What do you do if you need to make a complaint about another resident’s pet?

If you need to complain about someone else’s pet, read your scheme’s rules and try speaking to the pet owner first. They might not be aware of the problem, such as their dog barking constantly when they are not at home.

If the matter is not resolved you can then ask your strata committee or strata manager to help resolve the matter. If the pet’s behaviour has broken a by-law, the owners corporation can issue a Notice to Comply with a by-law and ask the owner to stop the pet’s behaviour.

If it is still not resolved, anybody involved in the dispute can apply to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) for an order to remove the animal.
